Points

This video breaks down where and how to cue your horse through each part of the turn—collect, turn, guide, and finish.

Where each point is is where I want their HIP to be, not shouldere.

As you approach each barrel, you’ll:

  1. Collect before the turn—ask them to come up into your hands and engage.

    • Push style horses may not need much of anything here!

    • Free runners may need this to mean more woah then just collect, although they need to collect either way

    • Turny horses may need just really collected up and driving foward

  2. Pull to start your turn when you reach the second point, aiming for just above the barrel with your hand.

    • Do no pull back or up! Keep your hand low and forward

  3. Hold off or go neutral on the backside—this depends on your horse.

    • On a push-style horse, you might hold off more on the backside so they dont crowd it. This means your hand is literally on their neck or crossing to the other side to keep them off.

    • On a free runner, you might keep pulling slightly to keep shape. But your hand still stays low and forward

    • On. a turny horse you may just have your hand down and pushing them forward

  4. Guide through the finish by following through with your hand, staying soft but deliberate.

    • After the last(yellow) point around the barrel you can point with your hand to the next barrel
